What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation?
Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), also known as Muscle Stim, sends very small electrical current into the affected soft tissue injury or muscle spasm. This causes fast contraction to the muscles to help fatigue the muscle and allow it to relax, settling the spasm and releasing endorphins. The endorphins are the body’s natural pain killers so they help to reduce pain sensation to the area.
What are the Benefits?
- Reduces pain sensation
- Helps decrease swelling
- Speeds the healing process
- Promotes general muscle tone
Electrical Muscle Stimulation is an excellent therapy if there is a spasm in a back or neck muscle. It relaxes the muscle and allows it to return to its normal state rather quickly. Short therapy sessions are excellent at facilitating healing from acute and chronic pain.
